MCW: TV to Film

This game is to riff on Joanna Cake's given theme. Youre supposed to find a clip and tell about why you chose it.

For the TV-to Movie challenge, I chose the X-Files. It is a beautiful movie, although very dark. I really like how ideas are illustrated, for instance bees as the delivery system for the transmorgification of humans to alien food; to be warehoused in the north pole in hive like slots. Love the scene where the kid falls in the hole, and the alien schizz infects him and you see the eyes fill black; love how "they" take their minion scientist and seal him underground with the alien, which is very instructional (never work with the bad guys hoping to escape their wrath; i.e. "night of the long knives")

I especially appreciate how it illustrates the black hearted sociopaths that always seem to rise to power. But the best is this; which remarkably foretells the 9-11 scenario. Show date: March, 2001. Bonus points for coming in under 2.

I've always loved the "alien colonization" concept, but this movie sort of marries that idea with the most basic conspiracy theory that powerful people get together and plot out schemes that insure their hegemony. That's not science fiction. Happy MCW!

X-Files episodes focusing on Mulder's Big Conspiracy Theory get Troll Scores between Zero and Five.

X-Files episodes where Mulder and Scully just blow into town and kill the vampire/mutant/etc get Troll Scores between 4 and 10.

Worst episode: Where we find out the "truth" about the Smoking Man including that he personally did every assination in US history starting with Lincoln.

Best Episode: Tie between the Alien Negro Baseball Player and The Great Mutato comic-bookish one.

HUGE X-Files fan. Best episode: where Satan comes to town, "Terms of Endearment" I think the episode was called. Truly, deeply chilling. The movie did the show justice. Terrific choice.

Oh, and if you want to see an excellent recent movie, Winter's Bone. Unbelievably great. Snag it at your next opportunity.

Whilst I am aware of Mulder and Scully, I never watched the series - too scary! And totally vindicated by their foretelling of 9/11. Id have been worrying myself silly about that if I'd known! Great pick!

Good afternoon K9,

I've never seen the show or the movie. As far as the conspiracy theory goes, what a load of bunk. And remember crashing an aircraft as a weapon has been around a long time. The Japanese call them Kamikaze.

Enjoy your clip day!

I watched a lot of the series but never saw the movies. And it's been so long, I can't come up with a favorite episode. I still watch David Duchovny in Californication every now and again. Thia was a good franchise.

Happy MCW!

My point exactly! That is why it is SO important that you and I agree to a pre-nup which FORBIDS hegemony.

@ Karl - did you watch the clip of balk at the title whoever posted it to you tube superimposed? it was just interesting the set up they described in the movie right before 911. The "conspiracy" i say is real is that the 1%ers do get together and game the system. they write about it in their own papers.

@ pug: we dont need a pre nup. our love will last forever.

Good afternoon K9,

Yes, I watched the clip. There were plenty of rumors about airplanes and attacks on New York City flying around since the first attack on the World Trade Center in 93. That this production happened to use the theme isn't surprising. Nor implicating the gov't. It's Hollywood hype, it's what they do.

Is it possible that there are well positioned people manipulating markets, sure I can go there. But to say that an inside gov't conspiracy caused 911 is bunk. As much as we like to complain about what goes on in Washington. The majority of people working for the Federal government (particularly in the intelligence community) are hardworking diligent folks fiercely loyal to the people of this country. Are they infallible obviously not. Would they have allowed this to happen from the inside, no way.

oh I'se lovin' bein' a fly on this conversational wall. Coolio.

I'se a believer in the 1% cabal program--as Dawg say, they write 'bout it theyselves an' Aunty been in East River Beast a few times too many wathcin' the minions dance to the 1%ers tune.

But, I reckon fer the towers to be inside gubmint deviltry --much as gubmint gags me these days--is too fragile a proposition. How does ya' cork the mouths of so many folks it would require to pull off such? or ignore such? Ain't sayin' that it cain't be done, jes' that persuasive evidence seem missin' to me.

As fer TV to Movie--good choice, Pup.
