The Culture of Death Has it's Muse

This is the muse for the culture of death; the fashion of eugenics, sterility, non-individualism, anti-humanity, disease, and resource depletion. Washed out, antiseptic, outfitted with rubbery gloves, and replacement face (grown on the ass of a pig no doubt) and a neck bound in ace bandage to hide the sutures of Dr. Frankenstein. A plug, like 300 million others to be inserted into a Lagerfeld designed socket. The clinical appearance is like the angel of death -no, the administer-er of death, John Holdren's frozen hearted minion; a walking hypodermic needle filled with poison but labeled as progress. Not post-modern. Not post-Gaga. More like post-pestilence.

I can just see this as Agenda 21's propaganda poster: "We fracked your farms and strip-mined your mountains. Why worry? Move to the Habitation Zone. All your needs will be met. Compliance will get you designer outerwear and a VIP ticket to the Kevorkian Club, the happenenest nightspot in the new industrial wasteland!"

Our Lady of Bio-hazard. or, TSA stasi: "next in line!" Restrained and hobbled in fashion. Straight-jackety burkaesque bullshit.

What is this? Xenu's condom? If you kill me, clean up will be a snap. An outfit to mimic dead filmy skin or discarded crustacean shells rotting on a corpse. What the hell did they put on her arms? Doll parts, eh Courtney? Whatever was real will be replaced with a hologram of what once was. Have you heard all this bullshit about merging with machines and longevity? Google Kurzweil.

At last we arrive at self destruction. The choke pose with uncle Ernie's Pedophiliac dream gloves. Fiddle about! Radiation head gear and goggles for the sulfuric skies. Google the Tilda Swinton W spread and read all the gushing tributes to the "sexy androgynous alien". You know what? Id never put those three words together. The art reflects the culture. There is great acclaim for the photographer and I have no quarrel with the quality of the photographs. Or even the arty styling -for a death culture spread its right on the money. But what it says about us is terrifying, and that the watchers are gushing alarms me.

I had no idea it was a real person or photographs until you said Tilda-please-get-some-color-Swinton. I laughed at condom question, but that was all. It's a depressing photoshoot. I'm going to go see more/read more about this. I don't think they're good photographs... they made me feel... empty/confused... or maybe that's exactly what I should be feeling? Muse, no kidding.

boxer: there was color. there was a red one - like blood dispersing in water. and one that was a dead ringer for the wicked witch of the west. I was surprised nobody on the gushfest mentioned that. They were all going on about how much she reminded them of david bowie. It is depressing.

I like Tilda as an actress. Did you see Michael Clayton? She was the one who had a couple of human roadblocks to her corporate advancement iced. The scene where she practices her presentation to the shareholders and lays out her perfect understated outfit to do it in is terrifying.

My new comment at Fug Girls:

I think we can all agree that fashion is both art and commerce. And that these photos break the mold of both contexts. Certainly, they are artistic. But what are they SELLING? What idea? What philosophy? It’s not enough to praise them because they are different. The question one needs to ask is why?

I think the sparring commenter above hit something pretty critical on the head about that, in his/her assessment of these photos as a vision of our times and that that vision is terrifying. John Holdren’s frozen hearted minion; a walking hypodermic needle filled with poison but labeled as progress. Not post-modern. Not post-Gaga. More like post-pestilence. That’s pretty brilliant. Again, not just anti woman and anti fashion, but anti-human. Human as both plague and destroyer.

And for all of you praising the Thin White Duke-esque pall of these photos, if you know your history, you’ll know that TWD was a personna created by Bowie to help him deal with the fact that he was finding himself attracted to the tenets of Fascism. TWD was a SCARY mo’fo. Bowie did horrible things (outside of creating great music) while under his influence—to himself and to other people. He later profoundly apologized for its incarnation. But through the veil of history, we now bestow a hipster cool upon that and applaud its current incarnation in these photos?

Interesting.

5:36 AM
Blogger sparringK9 said...

wow moi! I didnt know that about the TWD! I never found Bowie sexy -though there are songs i like, - interestingly the song "fashion" applies here very well. and always wondered why so many did find the TWD incarnation attractive.

Its the same thing with the vampire stuff. I had a friend gushing over True Blood. so I tuned in and its death porno - and the characters are actually physically ugly to me. I just dont understand what passes for art now - repulsion revulsion and ever raising bars of "shock" really have a deadening effect- banality. lady gagas meat dress wasnt shocking, controversial or even a statement about being commodified (esp. if she is the architect of such debasement) it was merely boring.

I will watch the fug site to see what happens. have you ever comment there before the swinton post?

I did read it. Not going to google whatever the hell is a Tilda Swinton is though. And it IS at least partly about fashion.

Not sure what Agenda 21 has to do with American Entrepreneurs inventing an innovative way to extract Natural Gas and American Citizens opting to allow fracking on land that they OWN, sharing in the profits, and with a strong Capitalist motivation for leaving the land useable and livable.

Seems to me that would be exactly the sort of thing that Agenda 21 would want owned by a top-down authoritarian international bureacracy. And, of course, the methods THEY would use "on behalf of the people" would wind up being about 500x more harmful to the environment and less effecient than what the Capitalist and highly competitive Frackers do. And "greedy" land owners would have no say.

Seems to me that K9 has been reading hard-left anti-capitalist slave-to-the-obamanation websites disguised as "doomer" sites again!

Grrherhahhahahahahaha!

Hey, you wanted a longer comment!

I comment at the Fug Girls all the time. I like them. They're funny. But this is more than just, "Hey, I'd wear that frock to a wedding!" or, "No, no, no! Not another onesie!"

Because this spread is NOT about fashion.

And it's not just another "outrageous" concoction that has nothing to do with reality, like most fashion spreads. In fact, regardless of how fantastical a fashion layout, how outrageously out of reach the high fashions they showcase are to the average woman, the primary goal of these layouts is to inspire creativity and loosen the pockets books. In other words, "If I were X, Y, Z, I could see myself in that." Or, "Hey, I can't afford that $2,000 Oscar skirt, but I can seek out a knock off and wear it for summer."

But this is something else. I can't get a handle on the clothing. I covet none of it, with perhaps the only exception being those thigh-high beige glove boots (which I would wear in an instant) and that's totally out of context. The rest of the outfit makes me think of exactly what you said: there's almost something gynecological about it as well. Yew.

6:36 AM
Blogger sparringK9 said...

troll: that's much better. dont ever hold back on me.

SO you think that If i make a value judgement about fracking it means that i was indoctrinated at some far left website? That by evaluating the methodology of natural gas extraction and the already negative effects on the land, that is somehow anti private property? The apologists for fracking remind me of GE defending TEPCO even during a meltdown. I can put Agenda 21 together with this. You think the masters of the universe are going to share this wealth with you? No you'll be upcharged up the wazoo like on every other resource - but only if we are lucky enough to not have our creditors come and seize the booty as payment on our debt. lets see, we already sold the ports, toll roads, etc.

I still consider myself a conservative. But i dont recognize it in its current form in washington. You wanna trash talk Ron Paul when the conversation we are having now has been his platform for over 4 years. Now all the gutless republicans talk his talk, and then privately enable Obama. "no we wont support your illegal war in Libya...okay, heres the money" and so forth.

I have changed though. I started living in a rural community. I get to see the depression up close and personal. I got attached to the land. Maybe i decided there was a better way than devoting my entire political philosophy to whoever could provide me with the juice to run my six three five!

In the interview, The Swint talks about the influences for this spread, which I don't see AT ALL. Except for the Bowie thing.

Other than that, it is pure Human as Plague to me.

back at Troll: you know, I couldnt find one example of these benevolent super-capitalists fracking their own private property - can you provide any? how exactly do you transport this commodity? through pipelines? what if you dont want a pipeline through your PRIVATE PROPERTY? then you get a little eminent domain thrown your way. I cant tell the difference between the authoritarian state and these guys you admire so much. looks like good cop bad cop to me - they are the same people.

Well, yes, I WOULD like to see the site that caused you to compare American Entrepreneurs involved in fracking to Agenda 21.

I trash Ron Paul's zombie-like and extremely RUDE supporters because they deserve it. As for Doctor Paul himself, just 3 things really:

1) He doesn't discipline his rude minions.

2) He has no chance at winning and has NEVER demonstrated the ability to win ANY competitive election. EVER. Let alone the Presidency. A LUMP OF DIRT would win Paul's Congressional Seat if you put an "R" next to it on the ballot.

Forgive me for being practical and wanting a Candidate who Obama won't squash like a little squeeky-voiced bug.

3) He portrays himself as the "Lone Ranger" in Congress and it just isn't true even though you apparently believe the hype.

THIRTY Congressmen have the EXACT SAME Voting Record as Ron Paul. Over 100 vote with Ron Paul over 90% of the time.

Are those 90%ers evil in your view because they reside in competitive districts and try to bring home some bacon?

I LIKE his voting record. I like most of his stances on things that don't come up for votes. I like him.

But he's not the Lone Ranger and should stop pretending he is.

4:06 PM
Blogger sparringK9 said...

I didnt compare it. I used fracking as an example of ways to make your land worthless and poisonous., thus possibly forcing/compelling/resorting to a habitation zone. (of course that was sort of a joke, but it has merit in reality)

LATER i made the case that the people who roll into town and throw a little coin at some desperate rural community with the promise of economic growth; then taking the resources and leaving behind a wasteland is at least as bad as a central bureaucracy - actually they work in tandem.

WHat annoys me is that you think if anybody steps off the thought reservation that somehow they are traitors. I dont need to have a doom/lib site tell me what I can see happened right up the road from me. its called Copperhill Tennessee. and now that Entertrade is finished with them you should see the shit and horror they left behind, starting with one of the highest cancer rates in the state. Oh yeah, the free citizens got their paltry payoff -looked good to them at the time. but the big money was made and left town - like it always does.

there are many examples of people testifying to what happened to them after allowing fracking on their private property. the short version is: they are seriously sorry. I couldnt find an unbiased site to support fracking as a great way to make money by allowing an extraction corp access to private property. and then there is the matter of moving the gas. you didnt address that. how is that transported exactly? how you gonna get all the permissions you need to run a pipe all over creation? the State will do it for these guys you admire so much with eminent domain. its the same damn people! I ask you once again...do you know of any CEO's of NatGas that frack their own properties?

on to Ron Paul. Yeah, i see what you mean. the RNC picks winners all the time. John McCain? he is a lib. You know, DR paul won the straw poll at CPAC this year. (and last year too). and did you also know that fair and balanced FOx news edited in boos for Paul when it was actually cheers and got caught red-handed and had to make a public apology on the air?

link:

http://www.mediabistro.com/tvnewser/fox-news-bill-hemmer-apologizes-for-cpac-20102011-ron-paul-mixup_b53534

what else are they lying about?

So some idiots support Paul and you use that as your argument. Tell me about your candidate and I will find you some creeps that support him. or her.

My point wasnt that Paul be president though. My point is that you continue to support a bunch of gutless talkers and call that conservatism. So what if 90% voted like Paul -at least he started the conversation - the guys you support cant articulate what conservatism is and why it is good for this country to save their asses and you surely must know that. Who had Bernanke squirming this week? Not paul ryan who got played like a fiddle by Bambi.
maybe you like a guy like Newt GIngrich who actually can talk about american exceptionalism but its too damn bad that he is morally bankrupt and butt faced ugly to boot. Who in the republican stable is poised to take down Obama? WHo has the courage to even speak the truth about our situation? I cant wait to see who you come up with.

Finally, tell me what part of giving a crap about the land and its people isnt conservative. I like - no, I love capitalism when it is practiced as intended. But the vertical integration thats going down in this nation is wrong and there is nothing noble about looking the other way.

Beautifully said.

I firmly believe that there is no point to life without personal freedom and that freedom requires movement, which cannot exist without energy. So the critical issue of our time is: how do we extract and/or generate and move energy without ruining everything?

We humans beings—whether deliberately plunked down here by an unseen creator or evolved out of ancient ooze—belong here. The trick is, how? How do we reconcile our needs for personal freedom and survival with the needs of the planet?

The party line either way—"Drill, Baby Drill!" or "No, no, let's all go back to living in caves."—do not provide answers.

As in most things these days, it is the truly out-of-the-box thinkers who will move us forward. The entrepreneurs (capitalists or free market-ists) that see the need, create the product/service and are rewarded with profits for doing so so that they can continue in their innovations.

These machinations between the government and corporate interests are NOT capitalism. They are not inovative. They are not conducive to freedom or human species survival. They are something as remotely removed from that spirit as I am from a hippie in the 60s.

I don't think there is a "thought reservation" amongst America's patriotic Conservative/Moderate/Libertarian majority. So, I can't label those who disagree with me on ANY specific issue as a "traitor".

That's the sort of thing you see among Democrats. I.E. Joe (Elmer Fudd) Liebermann was called a "traitor" thousands of times even though he voted with the Scarecrow Harry Reid some 96% of the time.

The Bottom Line is always ACTION. And here's what I would DO about fracking.

Continue to allow entreprenurial Americans to contract with American Land-Owners to do fracking on their property within current State and County regulatory authority.

Land-Owners can CHOOSE to allow no fracking at all. Or they can go with an experienced bonded engineer who has successfully fracked on their neighbor's property with effeciency and minimal land damage.
Or they can go with "Nephew" who has a "bodacious set of tools".

Let the free market decide which fracking operations succeed and which ones fail. My guess, based on past experience, is that the ones who are effecient will also be better at keeping the land reasonably productive.

What would you DO? Not think. DO!
Ban franking in Jorja? In the USA?
Have the Feds take over the regulatory authority? Have taxpayers compensate any land-owners who get screwed by Nephew's Fracking and Moonshine Inc..?

I haven't researched the pipeline issue you raise. That's why I didn't address it.

Ahem: You don't KNOW who "my candidate" is so please don't put words in my keyboard. I can tell you it wasn't McCain and it ain't The Newt, however.

Don't give a damn about some silly mistake a FoxNews techie made that was promptly corrected.

I know for a FACT that out-of-state Paul-Zombies camped out in Tampa for 3 days, crammed the debate hall and LOUDLY BOOED every other candidate during the "Hi, my name is John Smith" portion of the program and squeeled with delight like demented pigs everytime Paul said ANYTHING.

If some other candidate's supporters do anything similar, I'll be the first to complain.

Call me mercenary, but the candidate I want is not likely to be the most ideologically pure as a Conservative.

MONEY! ( If they raise less than 900 million, they can't beat the Obamanation)

RESULTS ONE! (Someone who has actually faced a well-funded democrat in a competitive State and prevailed)

RESULTS TWO! (someone who has actually been GREAT at some job in the past)

That's my candidate!

I think Tilda's very brave to be photographed this ugly.

I loved Moi's quick assessment with the phrase "Emperor's New Clothes", and her wonderfully functional question "WHY". Why indeed!

The current definition of beauty will last 15 seconds, but the real definition of
beauty, the one all children know by heart, is in the flowers of your field, and in the faces of your precious dogs, and in the birds you paint, and in the eyes of their mothers. At some point people will tire of the artificial and yet again swing towards truth and real beauty. You do it every single day on your little patch of land in God's unspoiled country- and inspire countless others to consider doing the same. I would have never seen these images if I hadn't come over to read you tonight...I love you for always showing me something new, even if she was "a whole lotta yucky" :)

"put your hands down, mam" ...."Why? you dont want this to look like what it is?" and so forth. the good news is while all this went down, they retrieved all my stuff from the bins and laid it out for me...thus removing me from the cattle shoot pressure of redressing in a line.

troll: okay this has devolved into a Kobayashi Maru so I will just hit a few minor points: I said McCain was the RNC's candidate, not yours. I said "maybe" about Newt as a literary device to address the problem with ideas and the person....and finally my thoughts on Ron Paul arent really about him actually becoming president but about the things he talks about. We both know that a presidential candidate now has to be telegenic and promise booty like a sugar daddy in the age of celebrity worship. On the fracking I am going to read up on it and post in the near future. I hope you read the link I suggested for Moi. It is, i think, the central problem.
