You are so clever K9, loved them all except the people, they looked kind of scary. :) xoxox ♥

May I be a pest and ask a question?
In your beautiful video of chickory and your cathedral of trees, could you please tell me the name of the white lily like flowers with the lovely yellow stamens? :)

anonymous boxer: i do too. i didnt make these -they're stolen and part of my massive image bank. i thought about you this weekend at amicolola falls. it was so beautiful and quite a hike to get there. video coming soon.

american hillbilly: yes at the end is exactly like the insane clown posse ol cabal as you call em.

the buffalo is an animation made from the famous eadward muybridge photographs. i love the bison he is a perfect metaphor for our situation: american heritage on the run for its life.

UPF!

dianne: i wish i was this clever. i will teach myself to do this but i did not make these animations. the flower you are asking about is a trillium. it is a native plant and it take seven years to bloom once seeded. its one of the most poached plants in the forest i am sorry to say - and it never survives the transplant. mine grow in this stands low by my creek along with native blue flag iris and phlox. its such a gift to be given flowers that nature herself selected.

Thank you it is a truly beautiful flower, so are the yellow flowers in the video. I have 'native blue flag' with their vivid blue flowers growing in the wild part of my garden where there are wood violets peeping through the grass and many other pretty plants which have been brought courtesy of the birds. :) ♥

That last one makes me think of Wall Street. Did you hear that they may refuse the package because there aren't any golden parachutes?

My sense is that you are trying to move on from it or you can't get past it yet, so you find beauty in what is good in our land.

You ever hear this story about a wildlife researcher studying elephants in Africa? He was watching a herd that had just arrived at a watering hole while also keeping an eye on a looming thunderstorm.

The head elephant went to the water's edge, his head seemingly lifted towards the storm in the distance, while the rest of the herd stayed behind him a few hundred yards. What was going on, the researcher wondered? Why wasn't the herd drinking?

Then the researcher had a thought: could it be the elephant was noting in some fashion the frequency of the lightening strikes and accompanying thunder, much in the same way we humans do to determine the distance of a storm? So the researcher started counting the lightening strikes and the thunder sounds. It seemed to him the storm was moving away. Sure enough, withing a few minutes, the head elephant made a motion and the rest of the herd came to the watering hole.

Loves me some elephants.

diane: i love those bird brought volunteers! i know your garden is a lovely place and i am certain it inspires poetry;in every sense of the word; in your life

robert: welcome to the yard. i love that too. and i have the muybridge book and may try an animation of my own - ive done it with paper flip books but not with a computer.

enemy: i am far far from over it. but i had to take a break from it on my blog i was cortisol rushing all day like i was on speed. just burning like a sun inside. yes oh yes i did hear about the refusal of the bailout cause it didnt allow the big booty payouts. disgusting.

a flip in me has be switched i am not the same person i was. yes i know that is dramaville but its true. i cannot do anything about the bigger picture except vote against anyone who voted for the package. after that, my only recourse is to redirect the path of my own life -and in that light i did a lot of concrete things this past week in the woods that move me toward being self sufficient.

but yes in some way you are correct - i turn to art because i believe creativity will be my (our) salvation.

moi: elephants are the greatest. i remember seeing one in chains as a young girl at the ringling circus and crying my eyes out. i dont do zoos and i sure as hell dont do circuses. visions of "trapped" seriously disturb me.

I too am far from over it. People both in the blog world and what x-Dell calls "meatspace" are telling me to move on, accept it. But I just can't. Maybe I am just naive, but I still can't believe that we live in a government that is behaving like Britain to the American colonies. Lord! It's an indignation, and yes, I feel changed. My husband laughed and said: You really still believe that your country is basically good? I still do believe that, but it is now fact that government serves the bloated, overindulged rich who think they are above any law, even moral law, natural law--the basic principles that define human existence.

I've written letters to my senators and congressman, all who voted yes. They will not get my vote again, but does it even make any difference? So John Doe runs against Alan Spector and we vote him in because he was not part of the bailout. How do we know that he won't turn around and do what he is told? I had such faith in Obama and look what he did. I am getting huge flak on that-I have to vote for him, no McCain, the world wants a Democrat. But when I read yesterday of the further abuses of the Wall Street scum, I said to my husband: "Obama knows this. He knows what they are. He knows they are looting the banks and paying themselves before the bailout may mean a paycut." I don't care if Obama took their money anymore; I care that he is willing to play ball. So my vote (AGAIN) is choosing the lesser of two evils, which is all it has ever been my entire life. And even from the most hardbitten, cynical realpolitik view, this bailout is a farce. I too, am changed.

I love the elephant. The rest, barring the dog, develop psychic emesis to my mind, literally. Do not take this statement as an admonishment. I suppose I state it to see if you see otherwise, or if you have learned to accept and go beyond that? I am curious about the mind the way you seem to be curious or interested in art. I am seeing if there is a connection.

Or I am poking fun. Trust as you may or will. :p Oh, bother, do trust... in my good will anyway.

k9,

I think you are doing the correct thing in becoming self sufficient, and AWARE. Your art is great, and is needed in times like this. Creativity, and beauty always makes things easier. Enemy, I laughed with what your husband said; regarding the government. I'm in, and out of the country, but the lessor of two evil's is correct. WW3 is riding on this. Neither candidate is going to fix things, because they are both thieving bastards, but one will steal without as much blood.

K9,
Here's how ya do it... import a video into Adobe Flash. During the import, edit for length. Once imported into the timeline, goto publish settings. Turn off all options except .gif. Publish the gifs, i'd suggest lowering your frame rate to around 6 if you want it jerky like these.
Open Adobe fireworks. Count the gifs. Open the 1st one, then add frames. As many as you have gifs. import or paste each gif into the appropriate frame... run the sequence a few times cuz fireworks is notorious for moving the images and making the sequence jerk all over. Go to export settings. Select animated gif... export and there you have it, a film clip contained in a single image....

Oh and make sure to optimize the pics on each frame in order to drop the end size... 80% is unnoticeable to the eye. Depending on how many gifs u use, u might wanna go lower.

Next time I'll teach ya how to do kewl effects like this...

Fair, and actually, I could join you in that aspect. It is an interesting thing. Back when I first started surfing the pre-internet computer communities, I had a similar interest. Back then, they were just called looped pics, or something.

I never have figured out how to create them, but now there are many ways and it isn't just pics, as with the movie clip one. I hope you figure them out, I imagine you could be quite creative with them.

Oh, I also do like the buffalo one. I suppose I hope I have some such effect running under the skin of my higher order. An animal body with a heaven touched skin, if fallible, is what we are? I am, I think, for sure.

I just got this from my congressman. Have a chuckle.

Thank you for contacting my office regarding the need for investigations into the financial crisis. I appreciate your views on this matter.

On October 1, 2008, the Senate passed the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008, 74 to 25. I reluctantly supported this package because the failure of Congress to act would run the risk of dire consequences, including an economic downturn which could cause more foreclosures, jeopardize retirement accounts, and further restrict credit which is necessary for small businesses to operate. This legislation was a bitter pill to swallow but a vote for the economy was the lesser of two evils.

I am philosophically opposed to bailouts. I think that when you have Wall Street entrepreneurs who take big risks to make big profits and they go sour, they ought to sustain the loss themselves and not look to the government for a bailout which ends up in the laps of the taxpayers. If financiers knowingly overvalued assets on the books in order to lend more money, then fraud was committed and there will be repercussions. The same goes for individuals who engaged in predatory lending practices. The FBI has already begun investigations into major U.S. financial institutions whose collapse helped trigger this legislation. Moreover, the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform has held hearings investigating the cause and effect of the AIG bailout, and the cause and effect of the Lehman Brothers bankruptcy. In the Senate, the Banking Committee as well as other appropriate committees, including the Judiciary Committee where I serve as Ranking Member, will continue to examine how this happened with an eye on holding those who led us to this point accountable.

Again, thank you for writing. The concerns of my constituents are of great importance to me, and I rely on you and other Pennsylvanians to inform me of your views. Should you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact my office or visit my website at http://specter.senate.gov.

Sincerely,

Arlen Specter
