call your reps TODAY

PLEASE read this

i stole this from someplace i am sorry i cannot give the writer credit but it is very good:

Welcome to the Zimbabwe solution.

American has feasted and splurged on personal/business debt for decades, with globalization taking away our jobs and means of production.

Do you think the US-consumer and Rest-of-the-World-producer is a sustainable model? Why should other people ship us goods, when we give them nothing in return but dollars?

See, John McCain is DEAD WRONG. The WEAKEST fundamental of the economy is the American worker. The American worker serves fast food, implants fake boobs, tattoos, we're like a bunch of baboons picking fleas from each other, getting bananas from the zookeeper. I'm not saying we're not working hard applying acrylic nails and taking care of old folk in nursing homes; I'm saying there is not enough actual production of GOODS that other countries want to buy to sustain our lifestyle. The rest of the world is our zookeeper bringing us our daily bananas.

Forget housing bubbles, forget Lehman Brothers, that's is the fundamental flaw with our model. The only thing we have been exporting is money. We are profoundly indebted to "zookeeper." We have to pay; and we have little to trade.

Well, what can we trade? Scary answer coming up.

Our army. Protection.

Think about it. Our army, our sons and daughters, is going to whore itself to foreign interests. We will wage other people's wars for smack money.

The consequences of our foolishness is systemic robbing of our purchasing power through mega-inflation, and wages lagging far behind.

Called. Faxed. Emailed. Here in Nuevo Mexico, Senator Pete Domenici and Bingaman support the bailout. Udall is undecided. Heather Wilson will most likely vote against because, she says, "It's socialism."

There are no "wise men" in gub'ment who can make this all better. We're just going to have to take our lumps like grownups, and figure out what we need to do to prevent this from happening again.

You're cute when you're all "activist" and stuff...but there ain't no way in hell we're stopping this slide.

If I had the time and money, I'd fly to Washington for the Thursday vote. Take along a couple a pair of really pointy-heeled shoes.

Well, I certainly don't want any foreign banks or goverments buying up our failed financial institutions - that would certainly be even more of a disaster (we are already up to our necks in debt to China and Japan - thank you very much Georgie Porgie). I had read somewhere, though I think it's merely speculation, that the Feds will want to pass something to help foreign investors recover from our folly. That would be even more folly indeed. Let's hope it is indeed merely rumor.

But as far as the bailout here goes - I am not sure what the right course of action should be. Seems we are screwed no matter what.ON the one hand - why help these fat cats? On the other hand - will this help the little guy? No doubt it won't. Can't be helping the little guy - that would be welfare. Just help the fat cats - that's financial wisdom. FUck and fuck (sorry -my language is getting worse and worse these days).

I'm beginning to wonder if under the bed mattress ain't the best place for my retirement funds. Hah!

DOG! Drop by the roost - I have finally posted again, though you may of course disagree. But the conversation is always fun and illuminating, now ain't it?

Excellent piece. Having studied the matter carefully, I'm now on your side on the bail-out.

The Paulson plan, even if was implemented cleanly, is wrong. The fact that it WILL NOT be implemented cleanly after the traitor-democrat-party-of-filth leadership gets through with it, makes it doubly wrong.

bird! good to see you. this bailout does not have to happen. the paulson plan is a coverup for him and the kleptocrats i swear to God these guys should be drug out and shot. i am not prepared to conscript myself to serfdom, are you? many people around me are saying either it will happen no matter what or shrugging it off. shruggin it off!!!! its more than owning our financials - its our treasure: our ports, our infrastructure...whats next? our forests? our material assests? the world will not want our dollars we will have very little to offer and we will owe them everything.

in the immortal words of bluto from animal house

ITS NOT OVER TIL WE SAY ITS OVER

i'll be by later today.

kick em moi! get a few in for me

trolly: i am so glad you read that spengler piece. people need to understand fully what this means. everything we believe about america is at stake. on dave ramseys site there will be a podcast later today (after 4 i believe) with a detailed discussion of what happens without the bailout.

anonymous boxer: the best thing we can do is to convince our friends to act. make that call. it felt good to call my senators gutless wonders. grrherhahaha

i have indeed emailed my reps. the lack of accountability in this thing is horrendous. what i find shocking most of all is that the repubs are breaking ranks! my god - is it possible some of them are returning to the true spirit of republicanism - fiscal responsibility?

Did you see the quote from ... can't remember which senator - but he's a repub and said: "Just because God created the world in 7 days, doesn't mean we have to pass this bailout in 7 days."

Yeah, a little discussion please. I don't want to wake up a year from now and have stupid senators say, "we didn't read the whole thing through -we didn't have time." deju vu.

i figure, no matter what happens now i am screwed - i will be eating catfood in my retirement. but i would like to think that Gen Y and Gen X are not doomed to the same fate.

i am sick, sick, of it all!

Keep calling, texting, emailing, put signs in your yards and on your main streets! My senators websites say the responses are overwhelmingly AGAINST THE BAILOUT!
One congressional office phone ansering volunteer said the senators staff was a bit afraid by the wrath against government of those smart enough to be opposed to this possibly fatal economic suicide !

I'm with you Rotty...ready to sharpen my teeth and my claws and woe be to any publicrat!

I agree with fishy, and moi overwhelmingly. We all need to do OUR individual parts in exposing this treason.

Paulson is a traitor, and sell out to his own pocket book. The man was the CEO of Goldman Sachs....Goldman Sachs is one of the main beneficiaries of this 700 trillion. All these companies "needing" bailout have a paper trail of "shell companies" where the assest's=stolen monies are....Look in Dubai.

I agree with some of this. Our government, both R and D, have been pushing manufacturing away and trying to rebuild our economic model on economics and technology. Historically, technology is military based. From theory to practical, the militarily mighty have used technology to perfect their military, then used their military to extend their economic domain (and protect that domain). So, our economic model is based upon military might.

With our resources and manufacturing based in foreign nations, we have a "reason" to be in foreign ports and bases. We, further, expand our reach and defend our resources by further military actions and wars. How much of what is currently occurring is purely based on this model and how much is truly necessary is debatable (and fuzzy), but there are honestly elements of both.

As for being mercenary, I think that is a bit much. It is akin to saying women "sell" it, in one sense, in marriage or out, for security, money, children, or whatnot. A bit of a stretch (which some still take). And though at times true, it is of the vast minority of cases. If I sometimes have great doubts.

Still, I get your pessimism. And, I watch my own, carefully, so that I should avoid bitterness. A difficult task, because of both of those issues ascribed here by me.

*ducks?*

*grumble*

It wasn't Spengler's article that brought me to the NO BAIL-OUT position. It was carful analysis of the whole situation.

Make no mistake, there WILL BE BAD CONSEQUENCES if we succeed in stopping the Bail-Out. There WILL be severe consequences for certain industries and the net effect will be recession Nationally.

However, the consequences will be worse for longer and for FAR more people if anything approaching 700 Billion is spent on this.

There's no easy choice here.
