10 days of painting: day 5

who has a right to sing the blues? how about son house! he was born in the mississippi delta, had 16 brothers and sisters, shot a man and went to prison, lived also in detriot, and died of cancer of the larynx. that is a bona-fide blues life. (to moi: did you know the white stripes song "death letter" is a son house cover?)

im heading south again friday to 10 thousand islands a gorgeous, wild and primordial place so number 6 wont get painted until next wednesday. im sure the trip will get me off this blues imagery phase im in.

thanks to everyone who gave themselves a "blues name" on the previous post. that was a lot of fun.

Brilliant painting. Yes, I knew that about the White Stripes (I put the fanatic in fan). Jack White is actually quite the musical historian. If you haven't already done so, pick up Loretta Lynn's Van Lear Rose. White produced it.

Enjoy your trip and I can't wait to see what images it inspires!

Never heard of him, but if he lived in Detroit he's earned the right to sing the blues. Actually, just changing planes in Detroit gives one that right.

Love 1000 islands. HATE advertising copy describing Florida as TROPICAL. NOT ONE INCH OF FLORIDA IS IN THE TROPICS, DAMN IT!

I have high-blood pressure. Really really really high.

Paint me something soothing.

Just saw what Mr Troll wrote. That's a bit of a worry....hope you manage to get it down soon Mr Troll.

Love this painting. I am in awe of your talent. I can't even paint a stick figure without someone saying WTF is that?

Have a wonderful time in 10 thousand islands (sounds like a salad dressing) and can't wait for the next painting.

I am really glad that you didn't leave Son House out in the cold like so many other people do.

The painting, like all the others is magnificent.

I would like permission to download a few of them so I can print them and hang them in my school.

piktor: grrrherhahahaha! i don't know! i think there are some good ones to give pooh pooh a challenge: .im sure theres a TON of hidden meanings and puns in your names, but this is not a genius blog. grrrrrherhahahahaha

i love "adjusted chipotle latte"

jellyroll: you're sweet! and tender! and rolly!

gimpy sadie: i will and thank you. i hope i can get some good bird photos even though i am only taking the little digital camera.

moi: thank you. i will see if i can find that loretta lynn on pandora. you ever use that? its cool. you type in music you like and it builds a playlist based on your taste. then you train it by giving songs a thumbs up or down...it saves that info so each time the playlist is better.

foamy: might've been boredom. grrrherhahaha. thanks. im enjoying the blues men. i need to do memphis millie or ma rainey or somebody of the female kind.

Troll: i know what you mean (about detroit). and i also know what you mean about florida. when i think of florida im thinking cypress gardens in the 60's. or the old cedar key and McKee's jungle gardens. the old look of spanish moss and bromiliads. i think disneyfication has wrecked florida. its good to go to the source...i like the everglades for that reason.

PhoKid: yeah it is! all that pink and a green wooden chair...and the sun.

stephen renico: hey! good to see you. thanks for the kind words on the art.

nyd: thank you for your kind words! and you have permission. i posted them large for that very purpose. (its only 150 dpi but blogger wont take bigger) its 7x10"

what do you mean people leave son out? he IS delta blues.

Wow that is a fine painting of Obama.

:)I'm stupid I know. 10 thousand islands. Will your next painting be food inspired or island like? I can totally see you taking the number 10,000 and turning it into little islands surrounded by a sea of Kraft salad dressing. Yea I can see it.

Yes, but did he shoot a man in Memphis? Seems to me that one should be a stickler for details in a situation like this.

If I had a blues name, I'd take it from an old blues tune. I'd be kinda partial to 'Jack O'Diamonds.'

Kind of looks like the guy next-door, on an off day. Love the colors, I'd love to use some of them in the house, but Mrs. Phos doesn't cotton to bright colors.

actually, I think that if there can be a musician named "Lead Belly," then Pintface works quite nice as a bluesman name... now I just have to work on my drinking, beating my woman and spending time in the joint...

SHE,

Any self respecting Capitoline She Wolf would have a rightful demand for the immediate lopping off of my jugulars along with adjoining tissue and ancilliary material found happenstance. Your riposte to my undeniably selfish unobsequiousness means my life is spared. For now.

I am at your feet for the grace you regale on us all, your ever attentive readers.

Love your work and I want to see more.

I somehow got onto Kate's poop list. Dang!
If it's about that stupid video of you gals with Bogs, could you find out and I'll dump it?

Dang. I would have thought Bogs would have been the only dissenter, but, he was happy 'cause I gave him a beer to drink.
Which he said, if I do everytime I make a video with him, would be OK....

But, you know me well enough to know I don't ever want to "cross" someone, and I will delete anything anyone thinks is offensive.
Well, not ANYTHING. Like the last post at m'blog. Nah. It's staying up a while. Truth is truth.

But, Kate is special, so, find out for me, wouldja?

(and don't let the teacher catch you passing notes, either)

(that's what it feels like)

Hey! We got plenty of cold and snowy rain crap up this way, why don't ya wanna come up and visit Indiana?
Oh...cold rainy crap. Oh yeah....

Come hell or highwater, I will see your work at MOMA one day because it deserves to be there; I will break in myself and hang your paintings if I have to. Hey, its not like I am STEALING art from the museum, I am BRINGING art! :)

Actually, there was a guy doing just that, but, I believe he may either be doing time or dug down deep. The pieces he got into the Amsterdam Museum wasn't so hard, but, the pieces he hung at the Louvre got attention. Then, I think it was a top London gallery.

Mostly he did parody art. Brought them in under his coat, paint-on frames....stick'em, have one of his friends take pictures...
Sometimes the pieces would hang for a while, sometimes they were down before closing time that day.
And, while it may have been fun, two of the galleries were ready to hang the guy...

The work is good, support the artist. And that doesn't always mean buy, although that's helpful.
You can also tell others about her, post pictures of her pictures on your blog, take out an advertisement in the superbowl, have an enlarged copy of one of her paintings put on the parking lot of the Montreal Mall (I heard someone say it was the largest parking lot in the world....)
(course I've also heard that highway 1 through Los Angeles at 5:30pm is also a large parking lot...)

Well, just be quick at the hanging part, get lots of pictures of it hanging there and run like all get out!

Now, On a more personal side, did I hear that y'all found a gator in the glades and he took a liking to ya and you brought him back?

Zat right?
What would you name a gator? I mean if you were going to have a pet gator, what in the dickens would you call him.
I mean, besides "SPIT THOSE CHICKENS OUT!" (whack!)
