furblown and thrashed out

/bark bark bark

I've been
roamin' on a road trip
what's the dog to do?
gone to see some family and trying to be true
but you know i was hidin' behind those mirrors, Q.

just like that overstuffed control freak of pink
bike week i think
i was blowing past tons of ink
calling attention to the dark in a blink
glance into the rearview he's
unsnapping his holster
brother does your cojones that bolster?
and now the familiar heart sink
yeah....
I'm minding my manners for the FHP too
a little bit of rebel with a lot more of a clue.

through the county that holds
the place of
my birth
rolling hills; the good earth
landscaped with coolant-hued sink holes
and the horse of famous video roles
the first days back
had an attack!
my wild home was now whack
*check yourself dog*
the now is all there ever is
these new people coming in?
they don't know what it's been, to them
its a biz.

but i remember the bayhill fog
rising off marsh and swamp
now its a country club
dangerous ground
to romp
no criticism
just witticism
on manicured greens and society scenes
the marketed promise of the joy it brings
but no people bypasses life's sorrowful things.
listen,
just focus on the fragrance of orange
blossoms at night
the osceola turkey. the osprey flight.

the red-tailed spread that rust to shield me

from the sun
i looked for the natives
but there were hardly none
earth-moving yellows with jaws like a shark
building new places
named for the things
they took apart

dear WALT!
it ain't your fault
your happy creation was
a mouse
that became a rat
and a concrete paradise at that
they bought it all
to present a fake florida to ya'll.

i'd rather look at
mullets, camaros, skynard clones and chrome
much more than this
kitsch reinvention of my home

*just saying*

"silk" is an escape pod
for all occasions
flee away dog from the sun-people raisins
to the interior of oak hammock and moss
i expected the change
but not the loss
new rules for the neighborhood
and the end of the ranches
asphalt and walls and
hurricane branches
the concrete tee-pees and dixie fried chicken
are MIA or taking a lickin'
to gentrification and attrition
its my highest mission
to enjoy what still is
and not what's missin'
and besides
my mama lives there
is there any better reason
this season to bear?

K9, Just 10 min away from the stop in that pic and I probably waved at you from the cigar shop on the 1.9.2. so close, now so far away, oh well. I don't mean to soften up here but that was a beautiful poem, very heartfelt and visually refreshing. Should have stayed for the battle dawg. The place will soon be a Trump Tower by the way things are shappin' up round here. Maybe next time.

Q,

that's a big 10-4. I shoulda stayed for the battle but cash is king i learned in the first round years ago.
so keep snapping those Qpix of the wild things.

In narcoosee i was talking to a guy about all the development -the strain on the country people cause all the new arrivals don't want the goats and chickens and trucks out front. why the hell do they come out to the country then?

the guy also said the turkeys were just standing out in the fields in broad daylight now not even under cover cause there wasnt any. i kept thinkin' i was going to puke; the more i heard.....seriously, Im older than you and i remember when out between O and St. Cloud was primordial!

Q, i considered trying to get together with you and bogs but then i thought it would just be too creepy to suggest. Like you posted once before, who the hell is anybody really in blogland? for all you know I could be a psychotic freak posting from my pit in the basement. Ya'll crossed my mind quite a bit as i took in the rapid changes in CenFla.

I'll be back in a month-6 weeks though so if you like to live dangerously then think about it. great to see you Q! thanks for the kind words on the poem. and again, no Quords for the big good-bye.

Hello K9

Shoulda known that a big dog can take care of himself. But yep, I did miss you.

I grew up in a famous Swiss tourist town (Lucerne). Many, many, many American guests. Many people from Asia. Difference is that our town is famous for being a couple hundred years old - so the buildings do not go. But the amount of souvenir shops and faceless restaurants is sad to see.

Then, there is the other side: me as a multiple-times tourist in sunny Florida. You know, I admit it. I actually like WD-World. If you go in there like a child it is a lot of fun. But even as a visitor I can see change.

There used to be an old, unique pancake shop in Orlando. It's gone.

Down in Ft. Myers Beach is a little hotel that used to have old cottages on stilts. A bit trashed but oh so romantic. Those cottages are all gone now and in their place is? Right. A condominium tower. Got 400k to a cool million? You can buy a place there.

And I see more of those changes every time I am in the States.

I FEEL what you mean from looking around in my own home town. I can also see that - as a tourist in your home yard - I do not realize it.

Still, your post has given me an inside look at what your home used to be. Makes me a bit melancholic which means you have done well :-)

Hm. Getting older and saying goodbye. Not an easy thing.

K9 I hear ya on the turkeys and people moving here. I came over 11 years ago and it was a bit more country. Freak beast in the basement, hmmm interesting. Heck, from what I know, were some sort of neighbors and yeah, there are some creeps moving into east shore there, some have chemistry degrees and all that other jazz that I don't listen to. If you do an unarmed drive by down here some time, email me to dry some Padrons, and get old Jack ready, or Johnnie. Sangiovanni rules! I'm sure you knew that.

Have thought again about your post. You know, each and every country is well advised to preserve nature and a bit of its own past as a nation.

Then again - even if mistakes are made - there is (among others) one special thing to be said about the U.S. that I admire about "you":

You are young. Still able to cahnge at an amazing speed. This is not so in most of Europe. There is - besides necessary preservation - a definite downside to castles and old houses and a long history:

It slows you down, makes your mind veeery heavy, veeery unwilling to look beyond horizons.

It's that state of mind that lets you say: "We have always done it like that. Why should we change it?"

Well, if that were a dogma the wheel would never have been invented.

Summary: Yeah. You're right. No. You're not.

Come check out the ghost story that I will post over the weekend...

And PS:

Is that my SECOND Wag??
Have some dogsoup. There is an old grey bearded black dog with shanks called Rosco and two puppies, a lab and a springer mix and also a wee little sweater wearing toy terrier or something. They's all getting the leftover dogsoup.
I made it 'special for to help with the coats...

And hey, you sniffed it out!! I brought you a peanut butter carob cookie!!
